After I painted my World Cup nails with ten different teams, my friend slash nemesis told me I was a traitor and that I should have every nail be the American flag. I promised that once we got to the knockout round, I’d do it, so Matt Clark, these are for you:
pre-painting: nail polish and fake nails all lined up

painting the flags and soccer balls- I do two sets for when I lose a nail playing soccer… seriously it happened last night

Final product: Thumbs up USA!

I’m going to wear these with my USA dress on Saturday for the big game against Ghana! GO USA!

JUNE 23RD UPDATE: HECK YEAH USA! I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! I’m doing the nerdy little “Number 1″ sign, since, well, we were number one in our group for the first time in 80 years. Needless to say, I will be wearing this dress Saturday when we play Ghana, and I’m changing my DIY World Cup nails to ALL USA flag nails.

GO USA! USA USA USA!

Just finished my USA dress to wear to watch the World Cup tomorrow morning. USA better win because I want to wear this dress again! Numerous times!
It was made from a vintage salsa dress and a blue American Apparel leotard donated from friends, salvaged lace trim, and a military eagle patch. Recycling, fashion and the World Cup, all in one dress.
GO USA!

The other day, my friend Melanie buzzed this refinery29 link showing an amazing salon, Wah Nails, that’s doing World Cup team manicures. I’m pretty into the World Cup - I’m in four different pools, I’m addicted to my ESPN/FIFA app, and I’ve even caught the second halves of the 7:30am games. I love the World Cup, and even more, I love, love, LOVE showing my support for the team with my appearance- see previous Mets dresses, Obama tops, and Health Care Reform fashion, so I decided I had to give myself these World Cup nails. Here’s the process, and the final product:

I used real paint brushes, now they’re ruined. Also, this process took nearly 2 hours. Worth it!

From left to right, top: USA, the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Japan
bottom: South Africa, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Nigeria

All lined up. Do not confuse the Netherlands with France. I AM NOT CHEERING FOR FRANCE.

Finished product!

Bad Romance with World Cup nails. I love to pose like Lady Gaga… see below:

Brazil versus Spain in the finals! I’m cheering for Spain - despite their loss today
So, there’s my World Cup spirit. Stay tuned for another post on my USA dress. And I know these nails don’t have anything to do with AuH2O or eco-fashion, but hey, if my store doesn’t work out, I may have a career in nail art…

Hey New York people with cars looking to pick up a weekend job:
My friend and owner of Sharp Shirter, Dan Lachman, is looking for an NYC weekend employee starting ASAP for every summer weekend through September. His company, Sharp Shirter, makes amazing tshirts, dresses, scarves and hoodies that I sell at AuH2O, designed by local artists and printed on eco-friendly, socially-conscious American Apparel wear. This summer, Dan’s taking Sharp Shirter to a few flea markets in DC and NY. He’ll be participating in Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg (McCarren Park) and needs someone to sell his merchandise on Saturdays and Sundays. Only catch is- you need to have a car. He has a LOT of merch and a mini-tent and table, so you’d need to be able to transport (and store) all of that back and forth from your apartment to McCarren Park. He pays $100/day ($12/hr) plus incentives, like bonuses for hitting certain numbers and free clothes. Dan’s an awesome guy and owns a really great business, so overall it’d be a cool summer job. Below are a few of my favorite shirts/hoodies that I sell at my shop, and I imagine sell really well at the flea markets too. Let me or Dan (sharpshirter -at- gmail -dot- com) know if you’re interested!

Haymaker Hoodie, I own this one and wear it often

Cycling fish tee is a HUGE seller at AuH2O

The Hunter tee is a favorite among hipsters, obviously
Feel free to pass on to any New York friends with cars!
