Awhile ago, my friend and filmmaker Jesse Ash of Greener Media shot a video of one of the AuH2Obama fashion shows for CNN’s iReport competition. The competition was basically over who was doing the coolest thing to campaign for a candidate, and the video that won would get to be on Anderson Cooper. Our video showed how I was hosting Obama-themed fashion shows to raise money and get people wearing Obama clothing and earrings. You can watch that video here, on my YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psTUmZPfS1M. We were chosen as a semi-finalist, in the top 20 of thousands of submissions, but we didn’t we win the competition in the end. Nonetheless, one of the CNN judges took a particular liking to it… and was interested in my story… and… she just called me to tell me that she wants to do a story on me and AuH2O! Lord give me strength! CNN, man. If only I could speak eloquently in front of a camera… Luckily, I have until March 11 to practice. Here’s where I need your help:
They’re going to be doing an interview with me at the store from 9-12, and at around noon when I open up shop, they were hoping they could shoot me interacting with my customers and neighbors stopping in and shopping. So, if you’re free Wednesday, March 11, at around noon or 12:30, please come by the store and pretend to buy things! Or come talk about how much you love the store, or me, or eco-fashion, or feminist clothing, or the East Village. They want people all over the country to get a feel for the neighborhood. People all over the country! Sweet Jesus. If you’ve seen or participated in a fashion show, you could talk about that, or you don’t have to say anything, you could just have your pretty face on national television.
Also, if you knew me back when I used to wear pants made out of upholstery fabric and road construction signs, and happen to have any pictures of that, can you pleasity please mail or scan and email them to me? They want to show some photos of me as a recycled fashion designer growing up, even pre-sewing machine. Or if you have some photos of me in ridiculous homemade outfits from high school and college, pre-digital cameras and pre-facebook, can you send me those? It would be much, much appreciated. Email me if you have anything! kate -at- auh2odesigns -dot- com.
I only know that they’re filming on March 11; I have no idea when it’ll be on TV, but I’ll be sure to let you know about the air date when I know it. And since this has been a very selfish post and request, I will also add that my good friend Pat Reis has just had a piece in the New York Times. Swing for the fences, baby.

For Fashion Week, AuH2O put on a combined show with RebeccaSL on February 19th. It was at Fontana’s, one of my absolute favorite bars, DJ’ed by my friend Avi Flombaum. We had 25 beautiful models and 4 designers- not just Rebecca and me, but a few pieces by my interns. Thanks interns, and also Rachel Kay for make-up and Helen Frank for general managing! Thank God Helen’s back, doing the Westminster dog show without her just wasn’t the same. See below for photos, or you can see all at my flickr site in the album AuH2O and RebeccaSL Fashion Week Show.

Jenna Bromberg, who I met after discovering her tumblr and subsequently reading a million of her hilarious and amazing and well-written sex columns from Cornell’s newspaper. My stalking can be very proactive; I asked her to model, she did, and now I hope we can become friends outside the internet- if I’m lucky. She’s a huge advocate of V-DAY, so of course I made this V-Day dress for her to wear.

On the runway at the end of the collection walk. No surprise here, I’m wearing a dress made from an Adidas t-shirt. But I just got some Missy Elliot Adidas boots for my birthday so I had to make something to match. This dress will be available online soon.

Everyone lined up after the show, models in the back and in the front: intern Nandi Dusynski, me, designer Rebecca Lesesne, and intern Sarah Pipps

A few weeks ago, on Friday, February 6th, AuH2O participated in a fantastic event for the Westminster dog show. Sponsored by Pet a Potty and Sky Bark, this dog and human fashion show was part of the pre-party for the Westminster dog show. I thought I was a dog person, but I had no idea… This party had dog whisperers, pet psychics, martini glasses filled with doggie treats, and celebrity pups. Seriously! Dog fashion by Ada Nieves (www.adanieves.com) and human fashion by AuH2O, of course. Here’s some photos below, or see all in my flickr album: Westminster Dog (and Human) Fashion Show.

Here I’m holding someone’s dog that was wearing a matching scarf with his owner. I’m with Dana Tarasavage, wearing Confident Couture (www.confidentcouture.com); my dress is available for $39 here.
